I put netting over my strawberry plants last year...ON THE DECK..and the chipmunks managed to crawl under the net and nibble the crop away. My husband has plans for a huge netted enclosure to protect the trees, garden spot and keep chickens in as well so they will be protected from the coyotes. What a great idea propp...Oranges and peaches - yum!<br />What a great idea propping up the netting like that!<br /><br />I finally got a deer fence last year so I'd actually get to eat the vegetables I grow. Fruit, on the other hand...birds eat our apples from the top and deer eat them from the bottom. Starlings (my arch nemesis) eat 98% of the grapes and 99% of the blueberries. The little wren type birds eat lots of raspberries but we still get plenty.
