Today we had to go for an x-ray of my mom's spine. Osteoporosis is giving her some problems. And I always like to do something fun after Dr. appointments, so today we went to the Barnes & Noble Bookstore. My mom is a ferocious reader...loves anything to do with learning, which is one of the reasons why it's so hard to see her get older and lose some of that with age.
Mom found a book here with lovely illustrations. She called me over to see.
Next stop, to sit down in Starbucks while we enjoyed a
Peppermint Cocoa!
Oh.....what......fun......it.......is.......to.....................Decorate! :-D

SWEET STORY: While sitting, enjoying our cocoa, Mom kept admiring this little puppy, below. He was sitting on top of a box on the counter where you order your drinks. She talked about how cute his expression was...how he was just sitting there hoping people would notice and admire him. She was surprised that the next few customers paid no attention to him. She's such an observer. I love that about her.
THE PLOT THICKENS: Before we left she said she wanted to use the Restroom. I took her over and said I'd be waiting right outside the door. However, I knew I had enough time to run over, pay for Santa Puppy and get back, before she emerged. Hee-hee-hee. What fun I had when I whipped the little guy out as I was saying good-bye last night. Oh the joy! My mom was adorable with her new little friend.
What a nice treat for you to spend time with your mom...I envy you...my dear mom's been gone almost 19 years.
ReplyDeleteYour decorating is so nice...I still haven't done the inside yet...hopefully a little bit will get done tomorrow.
Your home is just lovely. I came across your blog a few days ago, while browsing through a chain of blog links, each leading to more and more wonderful blogs. I wanted to say a couple of thank you's. First, thank you for your Wednesdays with Mom posts - my own mom is 78, and I have found myself sometimes dreading spending time with her because of her loss of memory, her tendency to say the same thing 20 times in an hour without remembering she'd ever said them before, not wanting to take her shopping with me because of fearing one of her dizzy spells might bite into my *me*time. You've made me stop and realize that she probably isn't going to be around that much longer and I need to make sure to enjoy time with her, instead of casting her aside. I also wanted to thank you for your post about how us young mothers shouldn't look at your gorgeous home and be jealous of the things that we don't have... I'm not even 30 yet, I have five children, I'm a full-time student, we're a single-income family... I need to be thankful for the roof over my head even if the walls are covered in crayon scribbles, my loving kids who are always quick to cuddle but won't clean up without a fight, and all the other blessings that are usually overshadowed by the home improvement that needs to be done, the dirty dishes sitting in the sink, and the never ending laundry.

ReplyDeleteHow nice of you to get that little puppy for your mom. She'll have someone to snuggle with at night now.
. . About that ceiling fan decor ~ I love it!! One question, when you turn on the fan really high does it make the bead garland jingle???? LOL, hey, just thinking of all the holiday sounds :)
Blessings,
Sher
I love that you surprised your Mom with that sweet puppy. He is pretty darn cute! The decorations look FABULOUS! :o)
ReplyDeleteYour mom is the cutest. She had some legs back in the day. (maybe she still does) I love the look on that puppies face. Very cute. And your house is looking very festive. Mimi

ReplyDeleteYour mom reminds me so much of my mom. :) My mom *still* likes stuffed animals. You're the sweetest daughter ever.
ReplyDeleteOh, and I'm happy that you could use the recipe for the cookies! My son & I ate a few too many today. One thing I can't believe is they have 1 cup of butter in them. I know it's not all that healthy, but wouldn't Paula Deen be proud! :)
Have a good weekend!
Aaah!! Your mom is so adorable, I love it! And the decorations are so nice and cozy. I bet your house is the most comforting place in the Winter time!

ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful way to spend a day. My mom loved to read too. The last 8 years of her life she had macular degeneration, so she was legally blind. But she found a service to order books on tape for free and continued reading that way.
ReplyDeleteGive you Mom a hug from me next time you see her! Mom's can never have enough hugs.
