Welcome to the world, Steve. Except that left me all alone up in heaven to wait for my turn... 2 1/2 years later.
My mom's dress here is AMAZING!!! I absolutely love it. I remember seeing Oprah being interviewed on the David Letterman Show a few years back and she was wearing a dress so similar to this one, but in a beautiful brown silk, I think.
A little fairy had sent a package to my mom recently, so she opened it when I first arrived.
Thanks little fairy. : )
Well, I'm sad to report that my mom's Alzheimer's is progressing. I brought these bean bags, that go into my fabric pumpkins, so my mom and I could hand sew them closed while we visited. However, that was not possible for her, so we just visited and watched TV while I worked on them. Maybe it was just a bad day and things will get better.
Till next time-------M.L.
Hi ML-I am up to my neck getting ready for my craft fairs this weekend and next but I just read this post and wanted to comment on a) the fact that dresses in the 50's all had waists. Of course the women did too..your Mom's dress is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteb) you are certainly "heaven-sent"..to your Mom who is grateful (whether she can express that or not) for you and your blogworld friends who love you, too!
Hang in there.
Hugs!
J
I am so sorry to hear that she had a bad day. They do have bad and good days, but it still breaks our hearts when the days are bad. I pray so often that they find a cure for this soon. So many people have it. Just try to enjoy all the time you have with her now and treasure those days, bad and good.
ReplyDeleteWillow
I know EXACTLY what dress you are talking about- so pretty and classic! I am sorry to hear that she had a bad day- but glad that you could be with her none the less. Keeping her and your family in our prayers.
ReplyDeleteI SO hope it's just a wax and wane sort of thing?? Ups and downs, and they are not fun. :(
ReplyDeletei hope that your right and she is just having a hard day. i called my grandmother in Michigan who has alsheimers' to tell her happy birthday yesterday and she must have mentioned at least 20 times how lonely she is and how when she was growing up, families didnt all move away from eachother.
ReplyDelete(that failing memory can take a hard situation and really multiply it.)
It can be hard but... What sweet antique girls we get to care for!
I'm sad to hear that your mom's alzheimers is getting worse. It is so hard to watch those we love not be able to do the things they have been able to do in the past.
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear that you Mom isn't doing very well. Hopefully she will have a better day tomorrow. Love seeing all your fun pictures of the past.
ReplyDeleteDon't you wish people still dressed the way they did back then? I do. I'd love to get back to the basics.
ReplyDeleteI was thinking about how I'm sure your mom was a wonderful mother to you...Now in return you are being a wonderful daughter to her. What a wonderful love. God bless you both.
Robin~♥
HI M.L.
ReplyDeleteI do remember the brown silk dress she wore and you are right!!!
it is lovely and her flower accent is perfect!!! Your older sister with
her gloves on is to cute!!!!
Sorry to hear about the change in Mom, hopefully it was just that, a bad day, after all we all have them!!!!
hugs,
jamie
HI Ml. I too am sadden to hear that your mom had a bad day. It's hard to see our mom's, who have been caregivers our entire lives, have the need to be cared for. It's hard for them as well. Scrap of Joy is right when she says that your mom is also grateful, even if she can't express it. You're one of my hero's ya know, the way you care for your mom! Just keep hanging in there. Keep remembering that the rewards are eternal!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your day! Mercy
I love the relationship that you have with your mom. I'm sorry she had a bad day. It's so wonderful the way you include her in your life & make time for her. It says a lot about the kind of person you are.
ReplyDeleteYour Mom sure knew how to dress. They had such wonderful clothing back then, too. Guess that's why I love old movies...I can drool over the clothes! I'm sorry your Mom had a bad day. Alzheimers is such a heartbreaking disease. My MIL always seemed happy in her private world and that made me feel somehow a little better. She sewed & cooked & talked to people from her past. She was always smiling. I'll keep y'all in my prayers.
ReplyDeleteHi, ML! I just love that dress. I can remember my mom in some incredible clothes. I also remember those undergarments! (Although sometimes that idea doesn't seem so bad now.)
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear you mom wasn't able to help you with your sewing. I hope maybe next time is better. My mom doesn't have Alzheimer's, but does have some dementia problems, and I know some days are better than others. It's hard to deal with sometimes.
Mary Lou
PS I'm glad you enjoy my daughter's site. She would appreciate that dress!
I'm sad to hear about your Mom's bad day and I know how hard these days are for you. You both remain in my prayers. You have been blessed with a dear mama and she is blessed with a compassionate, loving daughter.
ReplyDeleteI do hope that your Mom just had a bad day and that she will still have many, many more good days than bad.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE her dress in the picture! She is just so beautiful and all your siblings look so cute!!!
M.L....I sure can relate to things with your mom. My little mom suffers with dementia. Not severe, but enough to prohibit her from remembering how to do all the lovely needlework she once did. Mom laments frequently about starting a new project, and I'm thankful she still has an interest. I'll keep you and your mom in my prayers.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Amy
Readig Scrap for Joy's comment about the "Waist Dresses", it made me think that perhaps that is what helped women stay in better shape. I know that if I fall into wearing my cozies all the time...it is much easier to eat in an unhealthy way! So I "dress" each day or at least wear jeans instead of sweats! Just a thought!

Sweet, sweet M.L. your Wednesday's With Mom now bring tears to my eyes. You have shared this remarkable woman with all of us, and she has become someone we love. My life has been so enriched by knowing her through you. You are a lovely daughter, and that says so much about her. Elizabeth
ReplyDeleteso sorry about your momma. such a difficult disease. I agree, your mother's dress is just stunning! I love those fashions! Hey, I like your blog name too! LOL
ReplyDeleteYour mother's dress was simply beautiful! She looked wonderful in it.
ReplyDeleteShe looks so happy in the current photos too ~ what a blessing you are to each other. I'm praying for more good days than bad and for comfort and strength for you ~ in the midst of it all.
I remember Oprah's dress! It was almost exactly the same! Tell me, what was Wilma's secret to regaining her waistline when the babies were so small?
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry about her bad day, but my guess is there will still be good days to come. She is the cutest!
Thanks for the mention of the giveaway! I appreciate your support!
She is lovely and her dress is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry about your mom. Isn't heart beaking to witness the decline? We lost my mother in law 2 years ago with this insidious disease she had for 16 years.
Now we are slowly watching my FIL decline with dementia. It is somewhat different.
I am his main care giver from his family and it is so hard when they know they love you but they just don't know WHO you are.
I do know the love is so real although they cannot express it. His love of Heavenly Father is what keeps him some what balanced and gets us through! Us too!
Bless your sweet heart.
~♥
This post really touched me. Much love to you and your mom....oh, how love takes different forms through our lives!
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry about the bad day too. I'm sure it'll be much better next Wednesday. Just a little positive thinking for ya. I know it's so hard and I still miss my mom every single day. Give your mom a hug for me. I do love that dress and your adorable family. I go to things nowadays where everyone is wearing jeans and t shirts. when our mom's were young they all wore dresses, hats, gloves. I can't decide which is better. Mimi
ReplyDeleteBe encouraged, every moment is so precious with you mom as you know. Alzheimers or not, these times are so special that you are sharing.
ReplyDeleteThe whole family picture is a treat to see. I love old photo's, it seems like the world is running at such top speed, were forgetting what yesterday really meant.
Beautiful family pic! I'm sorry to hear that the Alzheimer's is progressing. Have I introduced you to my friend Krista? Her father has alzheimers and she keeps a blog with lots of information on it.

I'm so sorry to hear that your mom had a bad day today. It must be so hard to see her disease progressing. You are a wonderful daughter. I love your Wednesday posts.

Hey! I just wanted to let you know I've left you an award on my blog. Hope you don't mind being tagged.
ReplyDeleteMary Lou
Love the dress. I'm sorry to hear that your momma had a bad day.
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet fairy!
I love seeing and hearing about your visits with your Mom and I love the old Photos, thanks for sharing. Hugs, Diane
ReplyDeleteOh dear, I'm sad for you. It's so hard to watch our parents get old, and forget. You are so good to her. I'm almost certain, that although they forget, their heart remembers. Somewhere deep inside, they know.
ReplyDeleteI've enjoyed catching up!! Take care.
Sandra
Its o.k. if Mom was not herself for your "Wednesdays with Mom". It will happen, and you know it happens to all of us,weather we are fighting Alzheimer's or just aging, even just having an off day.
ReplyDeleteBig hugs to Mom, she is such a delight to see and you are the best daughter!.
Enjoy your day,
Elizabeth
