Do NOT Try This at Home...

Unless you have a room with padded walls!!!
Have you ever picked up a pattern, thinking to yourself, "How hard could it be"?
Well, it's a good thing I have perseverance, is all I can say! This purse was VERY hard!!

But as you can see...it was worth it. And I learned a lot while making it.

Sara decided she wanted to make one too. Here's her fabric choice, below.
Below: AWARD WINNING SUPER BOWL DECORATIONS!!! Ha! : ) Purchased at Hobby Lobby.

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY TO ALL!!

  1. Oh ML...
Happy Valentine's Day sweetie. I so love this bag. It is so cute. Now if you thought it was hard, then it is because you are making things all the time. It sure did turn out pretty though. I love your choice of fabric. So pretty.

I love your Valentine decorations too. Thank you for sharing today. Have a beautiful Saturday. Country hugs and so much love...Sherry

  2. Pretty much any pattern I pick up ends up like that. I don't know why sewing frustrates me so much (sew much?) but it really does.

That is a very cute purse! Hurray for persistence.

    Happy Valentines Day!

    A couture bag!!!!
    How cool is that!!!!!
Did the fabric come with the pattern???
It is exactly like the one pictured!!! I love it!!! You could sew up lots of bags and start your own Vera Bradley line, only it would be Marylou!!!!
    have a great weekend
    Happy Valentine's day!!!

  9. You MADE a purse? Is there anything you can't make????

Gosh, I only want to be your next door neighbor and your best friend. Proximity would be VERY important in the equation, or the osmosis has no chance of working.

Hey, I have 2 Lori Mitchell figurines that I just go and I'm not going to use...I thought of you right away. They are the little cowboy and cowgirl. After the snow melts and the mail is moving again AND after I figure out how best to keep them protected during shipment (you don't think I saved the original packaging, do you?), I'll send them if you want them. Think of it as a birthday present some 12 weeks early.

  14. The bag is fabulous! It looks perfect. And, yes, I am always getting myself into something that I thought would be easier. I hate to be whipped by a pattern!

  15. Good Morning, That bag is precious. I love your daughter's choice of fabric also. I haven't been out of the house in a week due to a cold so I did not get to send a card, but I wanted to wish you and yours a sweet Valentine's Day. Give your mom an extra hug from me and Harriet. God bless you all.

  16. That is one beautiful purse! I don't think I could handle that one...I have trouble making bags. (LOL!)

I really love your table and clock!

  17. Happy Valentine's Day!!

Wow, the bag looks great. I have only made one tote bag since I started sewing and I messed it up big time. I have a long way to go until I can make a bag like that. Your V-day and Super Bowl decor are cute!
    Blessings!

  20. Great job. Sometimes the pattern maker is needs to have a non-sewing person follow their instructions to verify that the directions are clear & easy to follow. Then it is a sure thing that an experienced sewer (I know...wish it didn't look like sewage thing) can produce the intended item. My daughter is in the publishing field & she talks about how important details are for instructions.
    Congratulations on a wonderful purse.

  21. I love how the purse turned out...brilliant. I know better than to even attempt something like that. Amy Butler fabrics are some of my favorites, too. I just fiddle around with her scrapbook papers though...much easier for me..lol. Happy Valentine's Day!

  23. Your bag is so cute! I've heard that Amy Butler patterns are difficult, which is why I haven't tried one yet! Happy Valentine's Day!

  24. well your diligence absolutely paid off!

that is such a sweet lil' purse!

if it was me struggling through that pattern...we would have ended up with a drawstring sack in that very cute fabric!

i give into simpler ideas way to easily!

    love the pic's!

  25. Nice little bag and nice work! I think most sewing projects turn out a little harder than they look...especially when you get pattern instructions that make no sense at all!

  26. It's SO beautiful but I don't have the patience for hard projects any more. I do LOVE pretty purses and bags! Lovely choice of fabric and design! You'll enjoy it! ♥

  29. Wow! Your bag turned out fabulously! I had to laugh! When I read the first line of your post, I literally said out loud "YES"!!!

I'm guilty of this allll the time. I don't know what sometimes makes me think my sewing skills are better than they are! LOL That's how we learn, though, right?

    Thanks for sharing!

  35. It looks worth all of the effort though. I haven's sewed in so long---just don't have the patience for it these days.

    Love your typewriter too.

Sorry I haven't been over in awhile. We had a unexpected blogging break and my blog reading kinda came to a halt for awhile too. Glad to be catching up with everyone.

  36. I wouldn't have the patience to make that purse, but you did and should be so proud of yourself. It is so cute!!!

  37. You are one sassy girlfriend with that purse...and you made it yourself? Ouch...I would not even be able to sew two stitches towards that masterpiece!
Thanks as always for following my Fairyland chatter...
    hugs my friend!

  38. Amy Butler may design great purses but her instructions are famously awful. My girlfriend was a home ec sewing teacher and she agrees with me. I think she even called and complained about them.

I have to say though...your bag looks fabulous! Great job.
