Are you in the mood for a hilarious story? Is that a "yes" I heard? My mom was one of those mom's who insisted on putting the little silver strands of icicles on the tree ONE at a time!!! It paid off I guess because the trees always ended up looking like they came out of a magazine. SO this one year, when my brother and I were teenagers and the last kids still at home, Mom gave us the usual instructions of, "Now be sure to put the strands on one at a time." She then left the room to attend to some other business. About a minute after she left, my brother and I looked at each other with THAT LOOK on our faces, and simultaneously threw our entire wad right into the tree and commenced to fall apart laughing. I think we both just had to know how it would feel to throw caution to the wind and do the unthinkable. What a dork I was. Not you Steve... you were never a dork. : )
Hey...were we HIP or what? That was a rhetorical question!!
As soon as I arrived today, my mom took me right to her back porch to see the progress her geraniums are making. She is very proud of them. Thanks June and Ron for getting these started for her.
We had to hang iscicles one by one as well...and it did look beautiful...but it was a pain!!!!! I love that you just threw it...too funny!
ReplyDeleteThe dress you have on in the pic...I had that one {in about ten different fabrics} my mom made all of our clothes and I realy liked that dress...but then she kept making them...the same one....just different fabric....your mom is just so cute!!!!
Hahahaha that is so funny throwing the icicles on the tree....but it sounds just like something teens would do!!!
ReplyDeleteYour mom's geraniums are looking great. I just LOVE geraniums. Haven't bought any yet....trying to wait till no more freezing temps.
I bet the girls LOVE ballet day. Hope you have a great one!
I love the story too funny! Your moms flowers look great!
ReplyDeleteWhen you show the pictures of your Mom from when she and your Dad were first married I am convinced more and more I would have loved living in that era...she is stunning in front of her little tree...
ReplyDeleteMy mother made us hang them one at a time too. I hated it, though it did make it look pretty. My trees don't have icicles. That picture my dad had the same glasses, it scared me. And What's Up Doc is one of my all time favorites. Love your Wednesdays with mom.
ReplyDeleteOne piece at a time! My mom too! You're right - it always looked beautiful that way.
ReplyDeleteMy brothers, sister and I never threw large bunches at the tree but we did try to get away with multiple strands. Mom would make us seperate them afterwards. it was easier to "do it properly" in the first place, but that never stopped us.
Thanks for the memories!!
Sign me up for the "one strand at a time" camp... man, that was tedious work! Those boxes with the 500 icicles in each, ugh! My mom would get mad if I put handfuls on there and say that they looked like "bird's nest". She wasn't too amused when I wired one of her bird ornaments to one of the branches where I had thrown a "nest". ;)
ReplyDeletePerfect tree, I agree!! And that sounds just like her to put them up one by one. I can just imagine you two being silly and not following her directions and then laughing your heads off! How fun.
ReplyDeleteThat is one of my all time favorite movies.
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute little tree. Your mom is so cute! And her geraniums looks beautiful!
ReplyDeletehave never seen that move. But I will put it on my "must see" list. Thanks!
XOXO

ReplyDeleteOh the yearly tinsel battle continues at my house! I only get to put my tinsel on every other year! It's a crime! When I end my childhood stories on May 5th, I will continue from there in my "real" voice, not my story voice. The blog I am most inspired by and want to try to capture the essence of, is yours! Thank you for this wonderful place to visit! Elizabeth
ReplyDeleteAwwww...your Wednesday's with Mom are always so precious! Love this story too!
