Wednesdays With My Mom

This is out of chronological order this week, but you can see why I had to slip it in here. I LOVE this picture. : )
Sweet Sara came with me on this day last week. After we went to the Neurologist, we ran a HAPPY errand. One of our favorite Boutiques!!!! For those of you who deal with Alzheimer's, you know the drill of how they test your parent each time in the exact same way and then give them a score at the end. My mom's score actually went up one point from her last visit. : )

We didn't stay long because my mom was pretty tired that day. But it was still great fun!
Then, guess who paid us a surprise visit? My brother and his cute wife, Cindy. They were in town picking up their son from the airport.
It almost kills my mom to rip into a beautifully wrapped gift. Steve asked if she would like him to help. When she said, "yes", he did a GREAT job assisting her. We all cracked up. : )

Holding the package so she can pull out the surprise.
A beautiful picture of my Grandfather. My mom is a VERY proud Texan, thus the star. GREAT job, you two!

And speaking of my sweet brother...these next two pictures are of us at a Motel one Summer.

Do you remember this Polar Bear ornament from my 'Cloche Party' post? I bought one for Steve and one for me, to remind us of this great childhood memory. : )

It's actually a Mary Engelbreit ornament made from her drawing, below.

AND, to all who read this...

I love the picture of the 5 of you Mary Lou! You were the cutest bunch! I'm sure your sweet Mom will treasure that photo-your brother is as thoughtful as you! Will your Mom be at your home for Christmas Day? Who doesn't love ME...it's so neat (does anyone say "neat" anymore?) that those ornaments matched your memory so perfectly. Interesting motel when you think about it....a polar bear at the pool...hmmmm. I will answer the question about those angels in my post today...I hope to squeek out one more to finsh out my tour. Take good care and Merry Christmas....enjoy your gang!

I can't even tell you how much you help me with your "mom" post. You know I've lost my mom to the same illness and you warm my heart as you build these memories. I'm an only child and seeing the love of your brother for his mom and you is something I've always wanted...a big brother. I'm going down a boo hoo lane this morning but it is not sadness...it's just you touching my heart in a very special way...Merry Christmas...I am with you in prayer and support for the journey.

Thanks for the camera tip. I need all the help I can get! I just love all of your "vintage" pictures. I guess that makes us vintage. How did that happen? I love to see pics of your mom. I miss mine a lot this time of year. You come from a long line of beautiful people. Your grandpa was so handsome! Love the polar bear pics. And the ME ornament..Perfect. Have a wonderful Christmas with your family. Mimi

The polar bear ornament is fabulous, especially with all its meaning. I hope you and your family have "the best Christmas ever!"...as my kids always say.

Hi Mary Lou.......I enjoyed this post about your mom. Last night when we opened our gifts, my mom had trouble remembering how to open them. My hubby was sitting next to her so he helped. God bless you for taking such good care of your mom.

Love and Merry Christmas,
Amy

You have tugged at my heart with this post. What a beautiful idea to frame your dad's portrait and offer it to your mother. I am lucky that both of my parents are very healthy and only in their early '70s, so I can only imagine all that you experience. However, I can see the joy on your mom's face as she reveals the gift. On another note....the motel photos are hilarious! They make me think of the ones we have of my sister and me at the Kansas City Zoo.

Have a wonderful 2010!

YAY for your Mom. That was the perfect present that your brother gave to your Mom....she just looks so happy.

That boutique looks gorgeous. I just love all the bling of Christmastime. Also the Mary Engelbreit ornament is WONDERFUL!

We are still socked in with snow. It melts a little then re-freezes and makes the roads very slippery in the morning and at night.
