"THE BIRDS"...i WILL win!!!

For the past couple of Summers, we have lost most of our peaches to "The Birds" (Alfred Hitchcock reference). I love birds just as much as the next guy...goodness knows, I have fake ones ALL OVER my entire house.

But every year those little innocent-looking guys swoop down and devour our peaches before they're even ripe. So we never stand a chance.
But this year I decided to take a STAND!!! We assembled this frame meant for a shade canopy...left off the canopy...and used bird netting instead. Just look at how loaded the tree is this year............MINE.............ALL MINE! Hee-hee! : )
Of course, I always love to share..........with Humans!
And these two, helping with the last of our orange crop, are two of the CUTEST humans I've ever seen!

M.L. : )

You have outsmarted those greedy birds! Your helpers are very cute and I'm sure they were quite sticky after that project was finished.

Oranges and peaches - yum!
What a great idea propping up the netting like that!

I finally got a deer fence last year so I'd actually get to eat the vegetables I grow. Fruit, on the other hand...birds eat our apples from the top and deer eat them from the bottom. Starlings (my arch nemesis) eat 98% of the grapes and 99% of the blueberries. The little wren type birds eat lots of raspberries but we still get plenty. I feed the birds all winter on my dried sunflower heads and this is how they repay me?!

Ellen covered her trees with netting too so that the family could have fruit. My son's having problems with the birds where he lives making nest where they shouldn't. What great helpers those two grand daughters are. I'm sure you enjoy having them visit you.

Hi Mary Lou, Mine aren't so much the birds, it was the rabbits eating my panies, one year I planted panies in the entry, the neighbors rabbit(s) came over and ate them one evening, came outside the next morning and all my panies were gone . . funny now when I think about it. Enjoy those peaches and those cutie-pie grandkids! Sandy:O)

M.L., That is so cool, you have a peach tree in your yard. I'm jealous! Good thinking with the net. I lost all my strawberries last year because the birds were eating them.I really should have put up a net over them. Now if I can just keep the beetles away I'll be happy.

Enjoy!

We have that problem with birds getting all the fruit off the trees and the rabbits eating up the vegetables. My husband has plans for a huge netted enclosure to protect the trees, garden spot and keep chickens in as well so they will be protected from the coyotes. Good grief...maybe I should find a new place to live!

Horraayyyy!!! Wild critters are wonderful, but they can be intrusive sometimes, right? For me, it's the rabbits! Looks like you'll be feasting on peaches big time this season.

Your little helpers look as if they're having just too much fun ;o)

Thanks for sharing the great netting idea.

Good for you for outsmarting those crazy birds. I have to admit, I do NOT like birds - LOVE the fake ones for inside and embellishing stuff, but the real ones...no way. So it makes me happy to see that you figured out a way to keep them away from your peaches. :o) Enjoy your crop!

We have blackberries that we have to drape in netting every year.

Your granddaughters are adorable!

That is a genius idea! Your humans are adorable. Is that an electric juicer? My kids wanted some "fresh" lemonade...But they got really tired juicing those lemons!

I knew you had it in you. Taking a stand, the defense team is at work...You go girl and then invite me for some of that peaches and cream! By the way, did I ever tell you that you are a peach of a gal? Smile!

I'm glad your plan works! M-m-m-m I love peaches! I put netting over my strawberry plants last year...ON THE DECK..and the chipmunks managed to crawl under the net and nibble the crop away. In the 5 years I've had the plants..I think I've had 3 strawberries myself!
Your helpers are the cutest...glad you posted pictures..haven't seen them in a bit.
Thinking of you always!

Oh I hope you are successful. You are very creative! I would love to eat even just one ripe grape at our home...or make strawberry jam with all the strawberries scattered through our yard.
I agree your grands are very cute in deed. ~♥

I surely do miss our orange trees we left behind in California. Your little cuties look like great helpers. Great idea with the bird netting. We never get any cherries off our trees. I'll have to try your brilliant idea. Great idea with the DVD too. They'd make great Christmas presents. Mimi
