Wednesdays With My Mom

I thought it would be fun to show how beautiful my mom (and daddy) looked on their wedding day and then how fabulous she still looked five children later.
That's me in my mom's arms. Every time we look at this photo together, she reminds me of how she decided to put that little rosebud in my hair that morning (which happened to be Easter). It always makes me smile.
My beautiful mother sitting on her back porch. How fortunate she is to be the only one to have a huge tree to shade her porch in the afternoon. Disappointing news...they have decided to discontinue Wednesday Afternoon Entertainment. It's gone back to only Fridays again. Attendance was too low to make it cost effective. So I guess they are just going to have Karaoke each Wed. afternoon. My mom use to have the most amazing range. In her High School choir, she and one other girl were the ones who sang high soprano above the rest. However, with age, she has lost much of her ability to sing. So...we just sat and watched the others and enjoyed the old-time music. Here's cute little Marge singing.
Mom responding to a question from Marge.
Cute Joan doing a little dance for us. : )
Do you see the words on the screen? Well, this photo is of J.J. playing the trombone for us. Hee-hee...so cute!!!
ADORABLE STORY: While grocery shopping with my mom today, she retired to the bench up front before we finished because her right leg was giving her a bit of trouble. So I finished up and as I was walking up to say, "Ready Eddie?", she was happily putting all of her coins in a little machine for the Children's Miracle Network. Each coin did little tricks on the way down (one of those cause and effect deals). So when I reached her, she looked up and said, "Would you like to put some in?" I couldn't resist. I felt like a kid again being told I could have a quarter for the machine that gives you a beautiful "diamond" ring or one of those necklaces you get to eat all the way home!! Aww...the memories. : )

What a sweet story about the little rosebud in your hair! It's so precious that she remembers those little details and shares them with you. Just so sweet. I wonder if the retirement home could get some local churches to come and do entertainment? It's worth a try - sometimes they will if they know about a need like that. Thanks for sharing your Mom with us & have a wonderful Friday! :)

Love those pictures. I love that you post these. It's so interesting that we also have 5, that Gmother & Granddaddy were also 4 yrs apart in age--I was reminded of that tonight and how I used to laugh with Grandmother about it. :) I'm so glad we're all family. Lots of love, Jen

Your mom seems so sweet! How fortunate you are to be able to spend this precious time with her. I lost my mom in 2002 and I miss her all the time. I love that wedding photo- your folks look so fabulous! That photo is everything I love about that era!

It looks like your mom really enjoys living there, which is great.

HI thanks for stopping by my blog today. I got the triangle Halloween banner at a little boutique shop in Mckinney Texas. It was her only one. If she had had more I would have bought them all and given them to family for gifts because it is so cute.

Cute blog you have here by the way.

My Mom and I were just talking about your mom and you spending Wednesday together. We were on the phone she live 300 miles away from me. I love Wednesdays with your mom (but I know you know that!) :)
She is so precious. AND oh my goodness what a beautiful woman all around. I LOVED the dress she was wearing while holding you-CLASSY! And you were as cute as a bugs ear!

Thanks for posting these. What a beautiful woman she was/is. I wish I could go back in time and take a peek in the window while she was getting you all ready that Easter. Were things really so simple and beautiful as the pictures make it seem? Or was she running around frantic, looking under beds for lost shoes and trying to keep you all clean and happy while she did her hair and changed your diaper? Too bad you can't remember. ;) Luvs!

Your mom is just as elegant now as she was when you were a baby! I LOVED your photos, and so enjoyed coming back and going through your blog a second time, and more slowly! You are VERY talented and I am so impressed!

Thanks for the funny "facebook for old ladies" story! It made my day!

By the way, you look very young to me, and too young for grandchildren!

Enjoy your blessings!

Mary Lou, I just have to say thank you from the bottom of my heart for taking the time to share that story about Grandmother, truly, the tears are still dripping down. Someone once said in a comedy routine how young childhood and old age are very similar and then of course turned it kind of sour. But, if you think about it, and this hit me so hard while reading about this precious little tidbit, how sweet and pure and precious must these wise sages be to our Heavenly Father---they put aside all the chaos and materialism and pettiness that make up so much of humanity and are able to find true joy in the truly simple things of life. I am going to try NEVER to ignore one of those coin things ever again, and as long as one of my children want to do it, we'll do it and I'll tell them of theire great Grandmother and how she just loved that so much. You have given me such a precious treasure in sharing that---I'm still dripping over it! You are so wonderful!!!!
Love You!
